All services in detail
The Royal Edinburgh Ticket is a truly royal product, as it includes four very attractive benefits - including a royal palace and a royal ship.
48 hours hop-on/hop-off

With the ticket you can use the hop-on/hop-off buses of Edinburgh Bus Tours for 48 hours free of charge. Hop on and off as often as you like.
The buses run on three routes through Edinburgh:
The green line and the red line run mainly within Edinburgh city centre. As the routes overlap and you can use any bus, the frequency is very high. You never have to wait more than a few minutes for the next bus.
The Majestic Tour takes you out of the city centre. The bus goes to Royal Yacht Britannia, which is just outside Edinburgh. The blue line is the best way to get to the Royal Ship quickly and comfortably.
If you do not wish to purchase a Royal Edinburgh Ticket, you can also book tickets for the hop-on hop-off buses separately. Here you can buy tickets for 24 or 48 hours: Hop-on/Hop-off Edinburgh.
Edinburgh Castle

Edinburgh Castle is a castle that towers majestically over the city. From the castle grounds you can enjoy a great view of Princes Street Gardens and New Town.
Within the castle you can visit some highlights such as The Great Hall, The Royal Apartments, St Margaret's Chapel and The Honours of Scotland - the Crown Jewels.
If you visit the castle at lunchtime, you will hear the One O'Clock Gun, which is fired every day (except Sundays) at 1pm.
You will need a time slot ticket to visit the castle. If you go to the starting point of the city tour with your Royal Edinburgh Ticket, the staff will issue you with a time slot ticket. If you do not wish to purchase a Royal Edinburgh Ticket, tickets for the castle only are also available here: Edinburgh Castle Tickets.
Opening hours: The Edinburgh Castle is open from Monday to Sunday.
Palace of Holyroodhouse

Palace of Holyroodhouse is the official residence of the British King in Scotland. This means that when King Charles is in Edinburgh for an official occasion, he occupies the palace. Therefore, there are occasional closing times during the year, which are known well in advance.
For your visit to Palace of Holyroodhouse, you will receive a free Multimedia Guide to tour the palace. The device contains information for about one hour.
Inside the palace you can visit the State Apartments, the Throne Room, the Great Gallery or the Palace Gardens, among others.
With your Royal Edinburgh Ticket, you can go to the box office at any time during opening hours and take advantage of your free entry.
Opening hours: The palace is open every Thursday to Monday. Only between 21 May and 14 September 2026 is the palace open from Monday to Sunday. In addition, the palace will be closed on the following days in 2026: 12 to 20 May and 26 June to 3 July. In addition, the palace may be closed during a royal visit. If the Palace is closed during your stay in Edinburgh, there is a substitute with the Royal Edinburgh Ticket: admission to the King's Gallery and a Palace Guidebook. This alternative does not apply on the regular closing days (Tuesdays and Wednesdays).
Royal Yacht Britannia

The Britannia was a royal yacht, christened by Elizabeth II in 1954 and used frequently thereafter. The Queen was very fond of the yacht and considered the ship a second home.
Many members of the royal family have travelled around the world on the Royal Yacht Britannia in the past decades. Among others, the then Prince Charles and Princess Diana spent their honeymoon on the ship.
The Britannia was decommissioned in the 1990s. Today she lies as a museum ship in the harbour of Leith near Edinburgh. With the Royal Edinburgh Ticket you can visit this royal yacht free of charge.
To get there, we recommend using the hop-on/hop-off buses (Majestic Line).
Opening hours: The ship is open to visitors from Monday to Sunday. In 2025, the yacht will be closed on the following days: 1 January and 25 December.
